Product DescriptionThe stunningly complex classic chain technique is a tribute to the ancient chain weaving practiced in Bali since the 19th century when the country was still divided into eight kingdoms, each king competing for status with the beauty of his castles, queens and jewelry. The first of our jewelry makers was the grandson of a king's jewelry maker, bringing with him the knowledge of the chain, as had been passed down to him. The sterling silver links on the classic chain are hand-woven, annealed for a smooth, supple drape and often plated with rhodium to lend a sheen to the metal. The handcrafting yields a chain that is soft and amazingly comfortable to wear. First introduced at John Hardy in the 1980s, the motif has evolved to also include the carved chain motif. John Hardy's first partners, the ancestors of the goldsmiths to the royal courts of Bali, were the basis of today's partnership between designers and artisans. Together, they meld time-honored jewelry-making techniques with fresh design to create John Hardy pieces. Head Designer and Creative Director Guy Bedarida joined John Hardy in the late 1990s, bringing with him a vast knowledge of haute joaillerie following extensive training and experience throughout Europe and the United States. CEO Damien Dernoncourt joined the team in 2003 after falling in love with John Hardy's dual passions for handmade jewelry and for making a difference in people's lives. Motivated by a passion for beautiful things and people, John Hardy makes handmade jewelry and focuses on doing good for the world around us. Additional Information
